'Our Kitchen Tales' began with a goal to explore the role of food in culture. It investigates the interplay between food and language, aiming to uncover the essence of New Nordic cuisine through children's perspectives. Collaborating with 25 children from Skillingaryd, Sweden, and Oslo, Norway, we engaged in a participatory design process to craft a collaborative cookbook.
Our interactive workshops explored ingredients through playful experiences that involved touching, tasting, smelling, feeling, foraging, cooking and creating both edible and non-edible recipes. Our focus was on sourcing sustainable and healthy ingredients native to Scandinavia, aiming to showcase a diverse range of perspectives—from traditional to experimental—across different timelines
Our collective documentation of the process transformed into a playful cookbook celebrating the emergence of a hybrid food culture that values both people and the planet. We hope it inspires children, parents, and other enthusiasts to experiment with food as an artistic medium.
The project received support from the Nordic Council of Ministers' funding program, Volt, in 2023
